IMPORTANT: Sophomore Spring Program Planning and Major Declaration

Dear Sophomores,

Now that we are a month into the spring semester of your sophomore year, I hope your courses are going well as you are taking those first exams and submitting your first papers for your classes.

It's Major Declaration time!  Second-semester sophomores are required to declare their major--the major declaration deadline is March 1, 2017. You'll need your current adviser, as well as the major department chair/adviser to sign this form:  Since each department has a slightly different process for assigning advisers and obtaining the signature on the form, check this MAJOR DECLARATION PROCESS BY DEPARTMENT list for the process for your major department:  (The list is also accessible from to the right of this Blog under the permanent "Resources for Sophomores") Once the Major Declaration form is completed, you'll need to then submit it to the Registrar's Office in 107 Milbank.

In lieu of a physical meeting for the Sophomore Class, here's a PowerPoint presentation with information on important dates to keep in mind for this semester, including dates for advance course registration for the Fall 2017 semester:

Academic departments are holding program planning meetings between now and April for majors and prospective majors.  You may find a list of the already-scheduled meetings on this Blog: (will be updated periodically).

If you would like to discuss or need help narrowing down your major options, please don't hesitate to make an appointment to meet with me.

Congratulations on reaching this academic milestone!
